EDITING: THE GENDER GAP

In partnership with British Film Editors (BFE), WFTV is exploring the post-production gender gap and celebrating women working in editing.
This action focused panel will bring together editing professionals to share their experiences in the industry, discussing the lack of diversity in the cutting room and addressing the key issues women face as editors in film and TV. We’ll discuss the gender split among editors in BAFTA and the underrepresentation of women in editing awards, and touch on practical ideas that could make a difference going forward.

Lindsey Woodward BFE, TV Drama Editor. Winner of the British Film Editors Chris Crookall Cut Above Award for Breakthrough Editor and BAFTA for Best Editing Team: Fiction, for I May Destroy You in 2021.
Anna Price is a Film Editor. Following a degree in Architecture, she began editing in 1995 on the series Modern American Poets for Channel 4, on which she was also Assistant Producer. Anna has cut a wide variety of award-winning documentaries including Persona (HBO Max/CNN Films); The Surgeon’s Cut (Netflix); Once Upon A Time in Iraq (BBC2); Dolly Parton: Here I Am (BBC 2); The Trial of Ratko Mladic (Storyville); Tokyo Idols (Storyville); Dark States (Louis Theroux); Life & Death Row; Wonderland; Horizon; Our War; and Educating Yorkshire for Channel 4. Anna was nominated for a BAFTA Craft Award 2021 in Editing, Factual for The Story of Fallujah, and in 2018 was also a BAFTA nominee for Louis Theroux Dark States - Heroin Town.
In 2020 Anna directed and edited a short film as part of the immersive art project, A Delicate Sight - produced by Sam Winston, exploring the creative possibilities of Darkness with writers Bernardine Evaristo, Max Porter, Don Paterson and Raymond Antrobus. In 2019 she co-directed and edited the film segments for the project Transtango, a live concert and multi-media dance event conceived and produced by Patricia Bosso, exploring migration and identity.
Ferg McGrath is founder of The Cutting Room, the UK's first specialist offline-editing and edit-consultancy service. He has been an editor for more than 20 years, specialising in documentaries. His work includes: Captive (Netflix), Diane Fossey: Secrets in the Mist (Nat Geo Docs) and The Girl Who Talked To Dolphins (BBC). He is co-vice chair of British Film Editors and takes an active role in promoting diversity and inclusion in the post production sector as well as supporting new talent.
The Cutting Room sponsored the first BFE Award for Breakthrough Editor in 2021, won by Lindsey Woodward for her work on I May Destroy You and The Last Bus.
Tim Hunter, BAFTA’s Executive Director of Learning, Inclusion, Policy and Membership, joined BAFTA in 2008, and to head up the learning team overseeing the expansion of the Academy’s learning offer into a nation-wide programme of Talent initiatives and a yearly calendar of approximately 200 distinctive learning events – all of which are underpinned by high quality learning resources, delivered to a broad online audience through BAFTA Guru.
By harnessing the knowledge of BAFTA members, winners and nominees, BAFTA’s learning programme develops expert knowledge, promotes a more inclusive industry and helps to tackle important industry issues such as bullying and harassment. Tim also oversees the exhibitions and heritage teams as well as membership.
