About the Event

WFTV members are invited to this special in-person event, in partnership with the Financial Times and the House of KOKO, exploring the state of democracy, its relevance, fragility and value, as told by women in film and television. 

The Financial Times launched a four-part short film series at the start of 2024 examining what democracy looks like in 2024, as more than 54 countries - including US, India, South Africa, Russia, Indonesia, Taiwan - are set to hold major elections. To help stimulate a global conversation at this crucial juncture, the FT commissioned award-winning global authors Margaret Atwood, Elif Shafak, Lola Shoneyin and comedian Aditi Mittal, to describe their unique perspectives on democracy, highlighting its relevance, fragility and value.
