About The Festival

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the WFTV Festival will be returning in March 2026.

Kicking off at The Garden Cinema in London, throughout the month the WFTV Festival will travel across the nations and regions. 

The WFTV Festival is for WFTV members, by members. The festival will showcase members’ work, short and long form, across both film & TV, to an audience of members and invited industry professionals.

We want to celebrate the creativity and talent of our members with the chance to see their work on a big screen alongside their contemporaries.

In London, we’ll also be hosting Q&As, industry talks and speed-networking throughout the day. 

WFTV Festival in the nations will only be accepting short form submissions across both film & TV.

Who can submit their work

Submissions will be coming from WFTV members online via our website. Only WFTV members will be able to submit their work. It is free for WFTV members to submit to the WFTV Festival. To be a member of WFTV, it costs £100 + VAT per year. 

Submissions can come from members who have worked within any significant role within the making of the project. All content submitted has to have been made within 24 months of the WFTV Festival date. 

Upon submission, all applicants will consent to their work being viewed by our selection committee and being screened at the festival.

What is the WFTV Festival?

When do applications open and when is the deadline to apply? 

Applications for the WFTV Festival 2025 are closed.

Applications for the WFTV Festival 2026 will be opening later this year.

I would like to attend the WFTV festival as a member but not submit my work. How do I book a ticket? 

Tickets will be available for members to book to attend the festival at all locations in early 2026.

How do I submit my project to be considered for the WFTV Festival? 

You will be able to submit your project via the WFTV website’s WFTV Festival page when applications open later this year. 

May I make more than one submission? 

You may make more than one submission, but each submission must be made in a separate application.  

Can I submit to more than one location? 

You may submit your project to more than one location, but each submission must be made in a separate application. You must also be willing to attend the WFTV Festival at the location you have submitted to, should your application be successful.  

When will I know if my application has been successful or not? 

We aim to respond to everyone who has submitted their work to notify if they’ve been successful. Unfortunately, we cannot provide individual feedback. 

Do I have to be a member to make a submission? 

Yes. We will not accept applications from non-members. 

Do I have to pay a fee to submit my project to the WFTV Festival? 

No, there is no fee to submit your project. You will need to be an existing member of WFTV to submit. It is £100 + VAT a year to become a WFTV member - find out more here

Is there an age restriction for applicants? 

You need to be over 18 years old to be a WFTV member. 

Do I need to have a major role in the project to submit it to the WFTV Festival? 

No. As long as you have a credit within the project, we are accepting submissions from members across all roles within the project. 

What type of projects are you accepting for the WFTV Festival? 

We are accepting: 

  • Short Films (under 20 mins) 

    • Narrative & Documentary 

  • Feature- length Films (between 45 - 90 mins) 

    • Narrative & Documentary 

  • TV Short Form (under 20 mins)  

    • Scripted & Unscripted 

  • TV Long Form (20 - 60 minutes) 

    • Scripted & Unscripted 

What are the accepted genres? 

We will accept all forms of genres across narrative and documentary, scripted and unscripted.  

I’m freelance and I don’t know my work schedule, what happens if I can’t make the festival date? 

In order to make the most out of the WFTV Festival we absolutely encourage you to prioritise attending the WFTV Festival and to lock the date into your diary from the outset. Of course, we all understand that life gets busy and sometimes work commitments can’t be altered. 

When does the project have to have been completed to submit? 

Production completion must be no earlier than 24 months before the WFTV Festival date. We will not consider projects that have been made prior to this time

What’s the selection process? 

The selection process has three stages: 

Stage One 

All submissions are viewed by the WFTV team. The WFTV team will then provide a longlist for our selection committee.  

Stage Two 

From this longlist, the selection committee will watch content in its entirety and then recommend which projects should be viewed by the WFTV team to programme via a shortlist.  

Stage Three 

The WFTV festival programme will be finalised by the WFTV team from the selection committees short list.  

Do you accept rough cuts and work in progress edits? 

We will only be accepting final edits of completed work.  

Does my project need to have a premier status? 

There is no premier requirement. We will accept submissions that have been previously screened elsewhere, including other film club screenings and festivals. 

What is the maximum duration for short films and short form TV projects? 

The short film or short form TV episode you intend to submit must have a total run time of 20 minutes or less (including opening and closing credits). 

Can I submit a project over 20 minutes to a regional WFTV Festival location? 

Unfortunately not. Were only accepting short films and TV short form for regional locations. 

Can WFTV accommodate access requirements?  

At WFTV we’re keen to ensure that all our programmes are accessible for everyone. If you have any access requirements, please let us know within the application and we will happily accommodate you. Please contact admin@wftv.org.uk if you’d like to discuss in more detail. 

I would like to add/correct the information given in my application. How can I do that? 

If you would like to make any updates to your application form, please inform us via montana@wftv.org.uk and we will update your records. 

I’ve previously applied to the WFTV Short Film Club, can I apply to the WFTV Festival? 

Yes, we encourage you to apply again! 

Will I receive a confirmation on the submission of my application? 

Yes you will. Please check your junk box if you do not find the email in your inbox straight away. 

What are the accepted screening formats? 

We accept videos via a link (such as Vimeo) which can be downloaded in a MP4, MOV or DCP format. 

Does the project have to be in the English language? 

We accept work in all languages. Projects in a language other than English must be subtitled with English subtitles.
