About the Event

The last in the WFTV series Some Like It Short. Hosted by Jayne Chard, this session will consider how to get your film noticed in a crowded marketplace.

The marketing of most short films starts with the all-important festival exposure. Festival Doctor Rebekah Louisa Smith will be giving advice on how to develop a cohesive festival strategy – how to choose which festivals to approach and how to approach them. Distribution Consultant Beatrice Neumann will be talking about the online opportunities for short films in terms of channels and platforms and how to develop an outreach strategy.

Rebekah Louisa Smith, Film Festival Doctor

Dr. Rebekah Louisa Smith has over 10 years of film festival strategy consulting experience. Rebekah began her film industry career in 2009, working as one of the producers of national horror film festival the Abertoir Horror Festival.

Rebekah is founder of The Film Festival Doctor, a consultancy service for filmmakers to develop a film festival strategy. The company has won over 800 awards for their clients across the world.

Beatrice Neumann, Distribution Consultant

Beatrice previously worked in film acquisitions, spanning over a decade before becoming a freelance film and distribution consultant, trainer and mentor. She works with filmmakers developing marketing and distribution strategies from the early stages of a projects development through to distribution. Films distributed include Battle Mountain and upcoming We Are the Geordies.

Beatrice delivers sessions, courses and mentoring for a variety of clients in Europe and beyond including the National Film and Television School, Edinburgh International Film Festival, IFFR Pro, Creative England, Film London, Screen Skills Ireland and Damechanger Australia. Beatrice is also an Associate Lecturer teaching Researching Exhibition and Distribution at Sheffield Hallam University.

Jayne Chard, Producer at Hummingbird Films

Jayne has produced feature films Two Heads Creek  (2020); B&B, the winner of nine awards at international festivals and Best LGBT Film at the London Independent Film Festival (2017); Dartmoor Killing, Best Thriller at the 2016 National Film Awards. Jayne has also worked as a TV producer on the BAFTA winning series Casualty and documentaries for UK broadcasters. Through her company Hummingbird Films, Jayne has a number of films and Tv projects in development.

How will the online event work?

The Q&A will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your Eventbrite confirmation.

Live stream participants will not be visible to others and you will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask their questions to the speaker by using the Q&A chat icon.

This event is for all women working in the film and television industry and is open to WFTV members and non-members.
