About the Event

Film and television lawyer Leo Hugh-Jones from Clintons’ specialist Film & TV team will be available for 1-2-1 legal consultations on Thursday 14 October. These will be carried out via Zoom, or phone upon request.

Leo Hugh-Jones is a lawyer in the Film & TV Group at Clintons. She advises production companies, financiers, film and television businesses, brands and leading talent on the creation, finance and exploitation of audio-visual content across all platforms.  Leo started her legal career in financial services and trained at an investment bank before spending a number of years at a magic circle firm, specialising in regulatory, insolvency and transactional work.  Her keen interest in the arts drove a transition into entertainment law and she was Head of Legal and Business Affairs at Riverstone Pictures before joining Clintons.

These Legal Clinics will offer focussed advice on development, financing, and exploitation:

Development: Do you have a project with a budget of more than £250k that you’ve been able to progress in lockdown and now need reliable legal advice on? How do you obtain and protect the rights? How do you secure the key talent? What are the key terms in collaboration and co-production agreements? If you don’t get this right at an early stage, it can be complex to unpick later on.

Financing: Every project needs investors and financiers. What are the key differences between a loan and an investment agreement? What are the key forms of security when investing or accepting investment from third parties?

Exploitation: Finished content is now at a premium. Do you need to consider the evolving exploitation landscape? What are the key differences when negotiating with streamers? How will your marketing and exploitation strategies change in this new environment?

Leo is available to help you get these key points right. The aim of the Legal Clinics is to provide useful pointers but they cannot be a substitute for formal legal advice following proper review and consideration of the facts and any relevant documents and information.

Clintons is a tier 1, award-wining law firm. It is a market leader in media and entertainment law and advisor to pre-eminent clients at the cutting edge of the creative and technological industries. The firm’s film and television practice serves UK and international clients across all aspects of work in the sector and is particularly known for expertise in complex rights transactions and its ability to lead multi-party financings of audio-visual content. More information can be found on the Clintons website here.
