About the Event
As the humanitarian crisis unfolds in Afghanistan the future for all its people, particularly women, is deeply worrying. In this event, WFTV Chair Liz Tucker talks to award winning journalist Lynne O’Donnell, who returned from Kabul last week, to discuss what we in the West can do to support the Afghan people and journalists reporting on this tragedy. Lynne has just spent three months working in Afghanistan, so this event offers a unique opportunity to go behind the headlines, find out the reality on the ground and get an insider’s perspective on the country. This will be a Q&A with the opportunity for the audience to ask questions at the end.
Lynne O’Donnell is an award winning journalist and foreign correspondent. She was on the last commercial flight out of Kabul last week, after spending three months reporting from Afghanistan. She was the Afghanistan bureau chief for Agence France-Presse and the Associated Press between 2009 and 2017. Lynne has an MA in War Studies from King’s College London, where she is a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. She is also a fellow of the Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
