Join WFTV for a conversation with one of the most exciting UK’s casting directors, Sophie Holland. Sophie has worked across a number of successful TV & Film projects such as Netflix’s Wednesday, You and The Witcher to name a few.
Whilst reflecting on her career, Sophie will be exploring the casting process within Film & TV. She’ll discuss any current trends she’s noticing within the industry, along with sharing her advice on auditioning and casting tapes. There will be an opportunity to ask Sophie questions during the last 15 minutes of the session.

Sophie Holland, Casting Director
Sophie is a UK-based Casting Director working predominantly in high end TV/ Film/ Theatre productions across the world. With hugely successful shows to her name (such as Netflix’s Wednesday, The Witcher and Shadow and Bone), Sophie Holland Casting is considered one of the most exciting casting offices in the UK.
Perhaps Holland’s best-known project is Netflix’s record-breaking Wednesday, the series that propelled Jenna Ortega into stratospheric stardom. The critically acclaimed Tim Burton adaptation has been watched worldwide for over 1.2 billion hours. Holland has just been announced to be working with Burton on his next feature film, Beetlejuice 2 (Warner Bros).
Holland is the Casting Director for epic TV series The Witcher; based on the popular fantasy saga by Andrzej Sapkowski and boasting a dynamic cast lead by Henry Cavill (with Liam Hemsworth taking over for series 4). Sophie also cast the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin starring Academy Award Winner Michelle Yeoh. Other recent TV work incudes the chart-topping fantasy Shadow and Bone (Netflix) PeriIpheral (Amazon), Young Wallander (Yellow Bird/Netflix), Madiba (Laurence Fishburne, David Harewood), The Indian Detective (Russell Peters, Anupam Kher) and UK casting for Seth MacFarlane’s FOX series The Orville.
In film, Holland undertook the UK casting for Cherry (AGBO Films/AppleTV) starring Tom Holland, A24’s The Kill Team with Alexander Skarsgard and Nat Wolff and Lionsgate’s Down A Dark Hall (Uma Thurman, Jodhi May and Rebecca Front) directed by Rodrigo Cortés.
In theatre, Holland is best known for her work on Hamlet at the Young Vic in 2021 which starred Cush Jumbo.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions by using the Q&A feature.
