About the Event
Causeway, from Apple Original Films, is an intimate portrait of a soldier struggling to adjust to her life after returning home to New Orleans, starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence.
Join WFTV for a conversation with Director and Executive Producer Lila Neugebauer and Producer Justine Ciarrocchi.
In conversation with Wendy Mitchell, they will discuss their experiences working on the film and with Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry to bring this moving story to screen. Neugebauer will also be sharing the journey of her directorial debut and her experience moving from the worlds of theatre and television to film.
Members will have the opportunity to watch Causeway in advance of the Q&A event. In order to receive a screening link, you must book a ticket by Friday 11th November at 2pm.

Lila Neugebauer, Director and Executive Producer
Lila Neugebauer is a theatre, film, and television director from New York City. Her stage work includes the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s The Waverly Gallery, starring Elaine May, new plays by Annie Baker, Sarah DeLappe, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Zoe Kazan, Tracy Letts, and Simon Stephens, among others, as well as various revivals.
For television, she has directed episodes of Maid, The Sex Lives of College Girls and Room 104, and The Last Thing He Told Me. As Co-Artistic Director of The Mad Ones, she co-authors and directs ensemble-driven work; with the company, she is currently developing their critically acclaimed play Miles for Mary and Josh Ferris’ novel Then We Came to the End for television. She is a recipient of the Obie, Drama Desk and Princess Grace Awards. Causeway is her feature directorial debut.
Justine Ciarrocchi, Producer
Justine Ciarrocchi launched the production company Excellent Cadaver with producing partner Jennifer Lawrence in 2018 to develop a slate of film projects. The first film to be released under the shingle is Lila Neugebauer’s feature film debut Causeway for Apple Original Films and A24. The film is an intimate portrait of a soldier struggling to adjust to her life after returning home to New Orleans. The film premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in select UK cinemas and on Apple TV+ on November 4, 2022.
Host, Wendy Mitchell
Wendy Mitchell is a journalist, moderator and film festival consultant. She is a contributing editor at Screen International, the UK and Nordic delegate for San Sebastian and the producer of Sundance London. She has also been a speaker, mentor or consultant for Berlinale EFM, Cannes Marche, EAVE, First Cut Lab, The National Film and TV School and more.
How will the online event work?
This event will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your confirmation.
Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions by using the Q&A feature.
