About the Event
A research report released by We Are Doc Women in 2021 found that in factual television women are still underrepresented at Director level.
In this event WFTV is putting the spotlight on Directors working in factual and will be joined by the female Directors behind two of Netflix’s recent documentaries, Tinder Swindler and Jimmy Savile: a British Horror Story.
Join WFTV for a conversation with filmmakers Felicity Morris (Tinder Swindler) and Rowan Deacon (Jimmy Savile: a British Horror Story). They will be discussing their journeys in the industry and careers so far as well as sharing behind the scenes insight to the making of their documentaries from idea to screen; how they approached the subjects and crafting the narrative to challenges they faced in production and what they learnt along the way.

Speakers:
Rowan Deacon is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Her most recent project, Jimmy Savile: a British Horror Story on Netflix is a dazzling assembly of archival footage and forensic, nuanced story-telling. This portrait of a nation betrayed was one of Netflix’s must-see hits of the year.
Rowan’s past credits include the stirring portrait of young soldiers on the frontline in Our War: Goodbye Afghanistan to the story of a man facing a heart-wrenching decision in How to Die: Simon’s Choice; and the behind-the-scenes study of landmark legal case in action in The Case of Sally Challen.
Felicity Morris is a BAFTA and Emmy nominated filmmaker. Director of Tinder Swindler (which amassed over 166 million hours watched in its first 28 days on Netflix, coming in as the all-time most-watched documentary feature for the streamer. She served as Head of U.S. Documentary at Raw TV before moving to directing.
Past credits on the producing side include Netflix’s Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer(2019) and All American Nightmare and Raw series Waco: Madman or Messiah?
How will the online event work?
This event will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your confirmation.
Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions by using the Q&A feature.
