About the Event
The London Indian Film Festival invites WFTV members to join this rare talk by India’s greatest and longest-standing woman writer-director, Aparna Sen, followed by the UK premiere of Sen’s powerful new film, The Rapist.
Sen first came to international attention as a child actor in legendary director Satyajit Ray’s Teen Kanya (Three Daughters). As an actor, Aparna has worked with India’s cinematic legends including Mrinal Sen and Rituparno Ghosh and internationally with Ismail Merchant and James Ivory (The Guru, Bombay Talkie). Sen soon established herself as an accomplished filmmaker in Bengal and also internationally with the acclaimed feature 36 Chowringhee Lane.
The Rapist won the top Kim Jiseok Award at last year’s Busan International Film Festival. Critically acclaimed actor Konkona Sen Sharma plays a survivor who grapples with the aftermath of a brutal attack. The film follows her powerful journey of coping with trauma in her own way.
Please note: the film has a few scenes that some audience members may find distressing.
This film will be screened in Hindi with English subtitles.
The London Indian Film Festival is showcasing the best new Indian and South Asian independent cinema from 23 June to 3 July, with a range of UK premieres and special guests.
