About the Event
WFTV members are invited to this special screening in Belfast hosted by Reclaim the Frame of Ratcatcher, with an introduction by filmmaker and WFTV board member Alison Millar (Lyra).
Returning to QFT in a new, director-approved 4K restoration to mark its 25th anniversary, Ratcatcher is Lynne Ramsay's (We Need to Talk About Kevin) raw and deeply moving landmark debut feature.
Set in Glasgow during the mid '70s binmen strike, Ratcatcher is seen through the eyes of twelve-year-old James Gillespie (William Eadie), a young boy haunted by a secret. Feeling increasingly distant from his family, his only escape comes with the discovery of a new housing development on the outskirts of town where he has the freedom to lose himself in his own world. Enticed by a local gang of older boys, James is thrown together with vulnerable fourteen-year-old Margaret Anne (Leanne Mullen) and the pair strike up an unlikely friendship which becomes their hesitant but touching experience of first love.
Featuring breathtaking imagery, stunningly truthful performances, and a touch of warm humour, Ratcatcher showcases Ramsay as a fully-fledged visionary from the start.
The 6.20pm screening on Tues 23 April will be introduced by filmmaker and WFTV board member Alison Millar (Lyra), in partnership with Reclaim The Frame.
