About the Event

An online conversation between Isla MacGillivray and Sinead McHugh who represent UK and Irish audit, accounting and tax practise; Saffrey Champness.

This session will cover both UK and Irish film & TV production tax reliefs – how to qualify and the value of each relief. We will highlight some key points to consider when setting up a UK/non-UK project and discuss how the UK and Irish tax reliefs can be claimed by a production to best utilise the incentives in both jurisdictions.

Isla MacGillivray

Isla is a Partner in the Film and Television Team at Saffrey Champness and has worked within the  creative industry sector for over 10 years.  

Isla provides a range of services in relation to the UK Creative Industry tax reliefs, including; advising  producers on how to access UK creative industry tax incentives; advising on British cultural test  qualification and attaining co-production status for films, TV programmes and video games;  advising on multi-territorial production structures and financing arrangements; evaluating  budgeted production expenditure for qualification of tax relief, providing opinion letters for  financiers and assisting clients with statutory audits, accounts and tax compliance. 

Her client base includes film, television and video game production & distribution companies,  commissioning producers and rights owners across a range of large US and UK studios to small  budget independent producers.

Sinead McHugh

Sinead is a Partner in our UK and Dublin firm specialising in the UK and Irish Film & Television sector and has worked in the creative industry space for over 13 years.  

Sinead provides specialist advice on claiming UK tax reliefs and the Irish Film and Television Tax  Credit, Section 481. Sinead’s range of services include advising film, television, and animation  producers on how to access UK and Irish creative industry tax incentives, provides advice on  qualifying productions as British and assisting with submission to the BFI and advising on how to  qualify as a formal co-production. She advises on multi-territorial production structures, financing  arrangements and considers the impact of production specific contractual arrangements. In  addition, Sinead provides opinion letters for financiers, evaluates budgeted production expenditure  for qualification of tax relief in both the UK and Ireland and assists clients with corporate reporting,  audit, and statutory compliance.

Sinead acts for a wide range of internationally focused clients, from small independent film and  television production companies to major US and UK film studios and television broadcasters along  with indigenous Irish film and television producers and post production houses.
