About the Event

Marvel Studios’ Loki features the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new Disney+ series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant.

We will be joined by director Kate Herron and actor Sophia Di Martino, who brings to the screen the new character of Sylvie – a female Loki variant. They will discuss their journeys into the industry and experience working on the series, sharing insight to their creative processes.

Speakers

Kate Herron is a writer, director and producer from London. She is passionate about making female-driven stories that are as cinematic as they are funny and representative. Her goal is to be creating her own TV shows and movies that reflect this.

Before directing Marvel Studios’ Loki in 2021, Herron got her break into the industry directing the critically acclaimed Netflix Original, Sex Education, starring Asa Butterfield and Gillian Anderson. She directed the second half of the series (episodes 5-8), including the iconic It’s My Vagina episode.

In addition to Sex Education, Herron directed every episode of Five by Five for BBC/Green Door Pictures, starring and executive-produced by Idris Elba. The show was a Sunday Times Critic’s Pick of the Week and is available on BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime. She also has directed two comedy shorts for Sky Comedy and an episode of Daybreak for Netflix.

Sophia Di Martino is an English actress, writer and director whose appearance in Marvel Studios’ Loki series in 2021 marked her breakout role in the U.S. Di Martino is known for her role in the dark comedy series Flowers (Channel 4/Netflix), in which she starred opposite Olivia Colman. Her other credits include The Electrical Life of Louis Wain(StudioCanal), Yesterday (Universal Pictures), Sweetheart (BBC Films/BFI) and Into the Badlands (AMC).

She was most recently seen in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, in the role of Judith.

Di Martino has written and directed two short films Scrubberand The Lost Films of Bloody Nora, and a web series entitled Self Tapes. She also directed Halfbreed for Channel 4 Blaps.

Host

Rhianna Dhillon has been a film critic for 10 years, beginning her career at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra as their in-house film critic. Now a film and TV critic on BBC6Music’s Breakfast Show with Lauren Laverne, Rhianna is also the co-host of BIFA's This is My Cinema Podcast as well as The Radio Times Podcast with Jane Garvey.
