About the Event

Lost Boys & Fairies tells the fictional, tender, glittering story of Gabriel, a singer and artiste-extraordinaire at Cardiff’s queer club-space ‘Neverland’, his partner Andy and their journey to adoption. But Gabriel has a history and he needs to embark upon a journey of self-discovery before he can truly begin to parent 7-year old Jake.

Join WFTV for a conversation with the female founders of Duck Soup Films, the Leeds based indie production company behind Lost Boys & Fairies, and find out their journey from setting up an indie to their first BBC One commission.

Founders of Duck Soup Films Jessica Brown Meek, Libby Durdy and Bekki Wray Rogers will be discussing the making of this new drama from script to screen, offering insight to how they connected with the project and the development process to production.

Bekki Wray Rogers

In addition to Exec Producing Duck Soup’s TV Dramas and Films,  Bekki is responsible for developing and executing the company’s creative and business strategies, as well as nurturing relationships with key talent and seeking out new projects for the slate.

Prior to Duck Soup Films, Bekki Wray-Rogers had been producing high-end TV drama productions, including Shane Meadows’ THIS IS ENGLAND ’90 and ‘THIS IS ENGLAND '88 (Warp Films / Channel4) and the first two series of UTOPIA (Kudos Film & TV/Channel 4.) THIS IS ENGLAND ’88 and ‘90 won the BAFTA for best Drama mini-series in 2012 and 2016 respectively and UTOPIA won a FIPA, a clutch of RTS awards, and an International EMMY in 2014 for Best Drama Series.

Bekki started her career in Film & TV making short films and low budget features and attended the National Film and TV School to study producing.

Libby Durdy

In addition to Exec Producing Duck Soup’s TV Dramas and Films, Libby is responsible for developing and executing the company’s creative and business strategies and overseeing the company’s development slate, as well as nurturing our relationships with key talent and seeking out new projects for the slate.

Prior to Duck Soup Films, Libby was an independent film producer, with credits including the feature films TRADERS and THIS IS ENGLAND and LE DONK, BAFTA winning TV series THIS IS ENGLAND ’88 and feature documentaries THE STONE ROSES: MADE OF STONE and ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES.

In 2013, Libby was named Screen International Future Leader in 2013, and in 2015 took part in the highly acclaimed transatlantic Producers scheme - Inside Pictures.

Jessica Brown Meek

In addition to Exec Producing Duck Soup’s TV Dramas and Films,  Jessica is responsible for developing and executing the company’s business strategies and overseeing all of the company’s operations and procedures, as well as nurturing our relationships with key talent and seeking out new projects for the slate.

She started her career in 2001 on EMMERDALE working for Yorkshire Television and went on to spend many years at ITV as a co-ordinator for drama and children’s programming. In 2005, Jessica moved to documentaries, working as a production manager for YAP Films across a wide range of formats. Then, in 2012 she joined True North managing long running series such as BUILDING THE DREAM. In addition to her factual career, Jessica regularly worked alongside Bekki and Libby at Warp Films on all of the THIS IS ENGLAND series.

How will the online event work?

This event will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your confirmation.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask their questions to the panel by using the Q&A feature.
