About the Event

In this special edition of our WFTV strand of Meet the Producer events, members are invited to this producer masterclass. This special session will feature our host and fellow producer Michelle Stein in conversation with her business partner producer Jennifer Monks.

Michelle and Jennifer will discuss their upcoming feature Sky Peals as a case study, exploring its development, how it was funded and produced, along with its festival journey. Sky Peals premiered at Venice Film Festival earlier in the year and will be shown at this year’s London Film Festival.

They have both recently formed TV and Film production company, The Fold.

There will be an opportunity to ask Michelle and Jennifer questions during the last 15 minutes of the session.

Sky Peals

Adam Muhammed works nightshifts at a fast-food restaurant in a motorway service station.  A directionless and unassuming man, he lives a lonely life.  Upon hearing that his father has died Adam finds himself in search of answers.

Michelle Stein, Producer

Michelle is a BAFTA, RTS nominated and BIFA winning producer.  Her most recent feature film, sci-fi Sky Peals, from Moin Hussain premiered in Venice Critic’s week in 2023 and was backed by Film4, BFI and Screen Yorkshire and is being sold by Bankside.  Over the last 16 years, Michelle has worked on a plethora of projects from producing a micro-budget first feature that secured international theatrical distribution to developing a big-budget animation franchise with Aardman.  Michelle has a keen eye for international-level talent and has produced content that has screened in competition at A-list festivals such as Cannes, SXSW, LFF and Tribeca and been bought by the BBC and Sky.  Michelle’s previous company, Escape Films, was the recipient of a received a BFI Vision Award.

Jennifer Monks, Producer

Jennifer is a BAFTA, RTS and BIFA nominated producer. Jennifer is Co-Founder of Liverpool based production company THE FOLD alongside of Michelle Stein. Jen’s previous company, Pencil trick, was the recipient of a BFI Vision award. In the last 3 years Jen she has headed the production of multiple independent British feature films for funders such as BBC Films, BFI, Film4, A24, Netflix and Screen Yorkshire.  Her credits as co-producer include Scrapper, which recently won the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury prize at Sundance 2023 and Sky Pealswhich premiered at Critics week in Venice Film Festival 2023.

The Fold

The Fold is a newly formed TV and Film production company from BAFTA, RTS nominated and BIFA winning Producers Michelle Stein and Jennifer Monks.  From our base in the North West of England, The Fold produces high quality authored work from unique creative voices, serving the UK and global market.  The Fold enjoys enduring relationships with the talented creatives we work with, supporting them and working with them again and again across multiple projects.     The Fold is a dynamic and nimble outfit which also acts as Co-Producers and Service Company for productions shooting across the English regions and beyond.  The Fold's slate is supported by the BBC Small Indie Fund.

How will the online event work?

This event will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your confirmation.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions by using the Q&A feature.
