In this strand of WFTV events, members are invited to Meet the Producer. This session will feature our host and fellow producer Michelle Stein in conversation with TV Producer and Executive, Nicola Shindler.

Michelle and Nicola will discuss Nicola’s career path, along with any current trends she’s noticing within the industry, and insights on funding and developing projects.

There will be an opportunity to ask Nicola questions during the last 15 minutes of the session.

About Nicola Shindler, Guest Producer

Nicola Shindler OBE is a prolific, multi award-winning British television producer, who has worked with  some of the most lauded names in television and created some of the most memorable series. 

With over 25 years’ experience in television, Nicola has produced some of the UK’s most successful  and award-winning dramas, including It’s A Sin (Ch4/ HBO), Harlan Coben’s The Stranger (Netflix),  Years and Years (BBC/HBO), Happy Valley (BBC), Queer As Folk (Channel 4), Ridley Road (BBC/  Masterpiece), Traces (UKTV), Last Tango in Halifax (BBC), Butterfly (ITV), Finding Alice (ITV), Harlan  Coben’s Stay Close (Netflix) and No Return (ITV). 

More recently and under Shindler’s Quay Street  Productions drama Nolly, written by Russell T Davies and starring Helena Bonham Carter and comedicdrama Significant Other starring Katherine Parkinson and Youssef Kerkour aired on ITVX, featurelength drama Men Up on BBC and After The Flood on ITV. The latest Harlan Coben drama Fool Me  Once, starring Michelle Keegan and Joanna Lumley attracted over 37million views within the first week  and ranked in the Top Ten for Netflix in over 91 territories. 

Forthcoming drama Dead Hot, a Charlotte Coben title for Prime Video is set to launch this spring, along  with Playdate (Disney+) and The Red King (UKTV) also set to hit screens this year. 

Renowned for her relationships with writers, Nicola has worked with an array of the most prolific and  exciting writing talent including Russell T Davies, Sally Wainwright, Danny Brocklehurst, Lenny Henry,  Paul Abbot, Dan Sefton, Charlotte Coben, Tony Marchant, Amelia Bullmore, Matt Greenhalgh and  Sarah Solemani, on series starring some of the world’s leading on-screen names.

In 2019, Nicola was awarded an OBE and took home one of BAFTA’s highest honours, the Special  Award, for her services to British Broadcasting.

Prior to launching Quay Street Productions in 2021, Nicola founded RED Production Company in 1998,  where she was Chief Executive for over twenty years, and she also previously served as Chief Executive and Chief Creative Officer at StudioCanal UK.

About Michelle Stein, Host and Producer

Michelle is s BAFTA, RTS nominated and BIFA winning producer.  Her most recent feature film, sci-fi Sky Peals, from Moin Hussain premiered in Venice Critic’s week in 2023 and was backed by Film4, BFI and Screen Yorkshire and is being sold by Bankside.  Over the last 16 years, Michelle has worked on a plethora of projects from producing a micro-budget first feature that secured international theatrical distribution to developing a big-budget animation franchise with Aardman.  Michelle has a keen eye for international-level talent and has produced content that has screened in competition at A-list festivals such as Cannes, SXSW, LFF and Tribeca and been bought by the BBC and Sky.  Michelle’s previous company, Escape Films, was the recipient of a received a BFI Vision Award.

How will the online event work?

This event will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your confirmation.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions by using the Q&A feature.
