About the Event

When she fails to meet an item on his list of requirements for a bride, Julia Thistlewaite is jilted by London’s most eligible bachelor, Mr. Malcolm. Feeling humiliated and determined to exact revenge, she convinces her friend Selina Dalton to play the role of his ideal match. Soon, Mr. Malcolm wonders whether he’s found the perfect woman...or the perfect hoax.

Director and producer of Mr Malcolm’s List, Emma Holly Jones, will be discussing the making of the film and her experience balancing the creative roles of producer and director. In conversation with host Clarisse Loughrey, Emma will also be sharing insight into the development process of taking the project from a short to feature length film, and tips for other filmmakers.

WFTV members will have the opportunity to receive a screening link to watch Mr Malcolm's List in advance of the Q&A. To receive a screening link, members must register before 3pm on Thursday 01 December

Emma Holly Jones is a British writer, producer and director. Emma's short film, Mr. Malcolm's List: Overture, debuted as part of Refinery29's Shatterbox anthology series and became its most watched installment in less than 72 hours with more than 5 million organic impressions across social channels. The feature version, Mr. Malcolm's List, a period romantic comedy was filmed in early 2021. Freida Pinto, Sope Dirisu, Zawe Ashton, Theo James, Oliver Jackson-Cohen & Ashley Park star. The film was released to critical and audience acclaim in the United States and Canada on July 1, 2022, and later in the United Kingdom and Ireland on August 26, 2022.

Alongside her films Emma shoots a variety of commercial, documentary and photography work. Emma currently is repped by CAA, Rogue Management and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis, she resides between Los Angeles & London.

Host, Clarisse Loughrey

Clarisse Loughrey is the Chief Film Critic at The Independent. She also co-hosts the Fade to Black podcast with Hanna Flint and Amon Warmann and the Big Screen Book Club podcast with Joseph Kime. Clarisse has previously appeared as a regular guest on Kermode and Mayo's Film Review and Prime Video’s The Screen Test, and has worked with Bafta, the BFI, Curzon Journal, the BBC, Picturehouse, The Final Girls, and Second Sight Films. And, no, she doesn’t understand what her accent is meant to be, either.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions by using the Q&A feature.
