About the Event
As part of the 2026 Leeds Internaitonal Film Festival, WFTV members are invited to a special screening of The Eduction of Jane Cumming, followed by a Q&A with director Sophie Heldman.
A powerful historical drama based on a real libel case from 19th Century Scotland, The Education of Jane Cumming interrogates the entrenched societal homophobia of the colonial era.
Teachers Jane Pirie and Marianne Woods run a boarding school. Their lives are changed forever when a wealthy aristocrat enrols Jane, her 'illegitimate' 15-year-old grandchild from India, who makes a scandalous accusation: that Miss Pirie and Miss Woods are lovers.
