As part of WFTV's Upskilling programme, CVP ARRI invites WFTV members to come along for an introductory in-person workshop to camera operating with previous WFTV Award winner and professional Camera and Steadicam operator, Ilana Garrard

The workshop will lead members through the process of creating a shot; why you would choose a camera position/movement, then navigating the technical aspects of achieving the shot. The workshop will also showcase an array of techniques including fluid head and dolly work, remote heads and cranes, Steadicam and hand held.

By the end of the workshop, members will have developed an understanding of the process from start to finish, and understand some of the challenges and ways to problem solve them.  

Attendees should be at the start of their journey in the camera department.

Schedule:

10:00 - Arrivals with tea, coffee and pasteries

10:10 - Workshop with Ilana begins

12:00 - Workshop ends, event finsh

About Ilana Garrard:

Ilana Garrard is a Camera and Steadicam operator who has worked internally and in the UK for the past 10 years.

She began her camera operating journey filming music videos, short films and commercials. Later, she worked her way into TV and feature films.

In 2019 she was accepted into the Association of Camera Operators, where she currently sits on the board. In 2021, she became the first woman to be accepted as an Associate member of the British Society of Cinematographers. In 2021 she also received the ‘Craft’ award at the WFTV awards.

Ilana co-created Women Behind The Camera, a website and database dedicated to helping women working behind the camera in technical roles. She has taught many steadicam and camera operating workshops as well as mentoring young people stepping into the industry.

Her most recent credits include A camera operating on Netflix’s limited series The Decameron, several episodes of Black Mirror and Searchlight movie O’Dessa. She has worked with directors including Tom Hooper, Danny Boyle, Amma Asante, Ben Taylor, SJ Clarkson, Sally El Housaini and Susanna White.
