Join WFTV for our next event in Birmingham for an evening with Debbie Isitt followed by networking hosted at The Mockingbird Cinema.

In this special event hosted by Jazz Gowans (Creative Director, Nine Lives Media), writer and director Debbie Isitt will be discussing her career in the industry so far, experience creating, writing directing four films as part of the hit Nativity series and adapting the series to stage, insight to her inimitable improv writing process as well as upcoming projects and what she has learnt along the way.

After the talk there will be networking drinks and the opportunity to meet colleagues from around the industry.

Debbie Isitt - Writer, Director and Composer

Debbie Isitt is a Bafta and Emmy award winning writer and director of film, television and theatre. She trained as an actor and toured the world with her award winning theatre company Snarling Beasties. Her first cinema film Nasty Neighbours (2000) won huge international acclaim at the Venice Film Festival. Debbie adapted Jacqueline Wilson’s The Illustrated Mum for Channel 4 winning a Bafta and two International Emmy’s for best adaptation.  Debbie’s hit comedy cinema film Confetti (20th Century Fox) was nominated for a British Comedy Award in 2006. More recently Debbie has created a hugely successful film franchise by writing and directing a series of blockbuster Christmas films; Nativity! Nativity 2 “Danger in the Manger” Nativity 3 “Dude Where’s My Donkey?” and Nativity Rocks! all major box office hits in the UK.  Debbie’s latest film Christmas On Mistletoe Farm premiered globally last Christmas on Netflix.

This November Debbie is opening a major new stage musical I Should Be So Lucky as writer and director of an original story set to the songs of Stock Aitken and Waterman.

Jazz Gowans - Creative Director, Nine Lives Media

Jazz is an award-winning creative director, executive producer who founded & ran Transparent Television (part of the global Argonon Group) for over 15 years. Jazz has worked with all the major networks and has a proven skill and tenacity for popular factual with programmes currently showing in over 100 countries worldwide.

As the Creative Director for double BAFTA , RTS , international Emmy award winning Nine Lives Media - Jazz also heads up the company’s Birmingham operation - where is is also on the Executive Board of Create Central and is passionate about future proofing the creative sector industries.

Recently named one of TV Collective’s top 50 diverse leaders in television Jazz is a BAFTA judge and chairs many awards juries/committees across the industry .

Her TV commissions include: My Daughter Amy (Winehouse) included in Asif Kapadia’s BAFTA and Oscar winning film AMY; Queens of Pop: Aretha to Whitney; Queer as Old Folk; A Very British Brotthel: The Band Aid Story (exclusives include Bob Geldof, Bono, Quincy Jones, Boy George, George Michael); Britain's Forgotten Chinese Army with Joanna Lumley for Channel 4; ITV’s MOBOs: Paving the Way; BBC2’s Restoration Roadshow; BBC iPlayer’s Supercar Superfam; Botched Up Bodies (with several spin off series) Hidden History of Britain with Michael Portillo and Portillo’s Empire Journey for C5.

Before TV, Jazz spent over a decade as a features  journalist, working for major British national newspapers and several high-end magazines, including Elle, The Face, The Guardian, The Mirror and Vogue interviewing the likes of Robert De Niro, Stella McCartney , Naomi Campbell , Beyonce, Kate Moss, Paul Weller, Nirvana and many more !
