About the Event
Known for crafting tense and gripping stories, author and screenwriter Louise Doughty’s work includes bestselling novel Apple Tree Yard which was adapted for screens in 2017, and her original drama Crossfire.
In this WFTV event, Louise will be discussing the art of crafting psychological thrillers and the adaptation of her latest novel Platform 7 for screens by ITV and Dancing Ledge Productions.
Adapted by award-winning screenwriter Paula Milne (Him, The Politicians Husband and White Heat), the drama is a haunting thriller following central character Lisa who, after witnessing a cataclysmic event on platform 7 of a railway station, finds her own fragmented memory jogged to reveal a connection between her own life and that of the event she has just witnessed.
Louise will be sharing insight to her creative writing process and working with Paula to adapt the story for screen as well as discussing her career to date and writing for different mediums including books, screen, and radio.
Louise Doughty is the author of nine novels including the no.1 bestseller Apple Tree Yard, which was adapted by Amanda Coe and made into a hit BBC One television series starring Emily Watson. First broadcast in 2017, it reached consolidated viewing figures of 7 million per episode, making it the most watched new drama since The Night Manager. Doughty's fiction has been nominated for the Orange Prize for Fiction (now the Women's Prize), the Costa Novel Award and the Sunday Times Short Story Prize and translated into thirty languages worldwide. Crossfire was her first work for television and her ninth novel, Platform Seven, has been adapted by Paula Milne for screens.
