About the Event

For December’s Writers’ Group, we will be joined by screenwriter Rachael New.

In conversation with Agent Christina Pickworth, Rachael will be sharing her journey into the industry and career so far writing for series such as New Tricks (BBC), Trollied (Sky1), Grantchester (ITV) and The Mallorca Files (BBC).

Rachael will also be discussing creating her original period drama for PBS Masterpiece, Miss Scarlet and The Duke, sharing behind the scenes insight to the making of the series from idea to screen, developing three seasons and balancing the creative roles of showrunner and director.

Rachael New is a highly versatile screenwriter in both drama and comedy. She has just finished showrunning the second and third season of her original drama for PBS Masterpiece Miss Scarlet and The Duke where she also directed. She is currently writing the new season and will direct again.

She has written episodes on Grantchester for ITV, The Mallorca Files for BBC and co-wrote with Jed Mercurio on Lady S, a pilot for CBS.

Rachael has considerable series experience, having written on New Tricks for BBC1, Trollied for Sky 1, The Job Lot for ITV2, Eastenders for BBC1, as well as creating the comedy drama series Monday Monday for ITV.

Christina Pickworth, Agent, Imagine Talent

Christina is an agent for writers and directors at a small, bespoke agency Imagine Talent, with a list that focuses on emerging talent and female voices. Christina has written feature films, consulted for production companies and financiers, and freelanced at United Agents, as well as spending several years working in film development finance for a fund that invested in 300 British film projects over three years. Christina has previously sat on the selection committee for the BAFTA Rocliffe screenwriting competitions, and she consults for Stage 32, Industrial Scripts and Reel One Entertainment.

How will the online event work?

This event will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your confirmation.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask their questions to the panel by using the Q&A feature.
