About the Event

Join WFTV for a conversation with screenwriter and playwright, Suhayla El-Bushra.

Hosted by Christina Pickworth, Suhayla will be sharing her journey in the industry so far, experience writing for TV dramas Hollyoaks, Becoming Elizabeth and Ackley Bridge as well as her upcoming feature film Brides which is currently in post-production. Suhayla will be offering insight to writing for different mediums and her process when approaching projects.

Suhayla El-Bushra is a screenwriter and playwright. Her BFI funded feature film, Brides (Neon Films) is currently in post-production. She has written for TV drama series Hollyoaks, Becoming Elizabeth and was a lead writer and executive producer on Ackley Bridge (C4/The Forge). She is developing series ideas for C4, Avalon and The Forge. Her plays include a musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, The Long Song at Chichester Festival Theatre, The NW Trilogy at The Kiln, and The Suicide (after Erdman) at the National Theatre.

Christina Pickworth, Agent, Imagine Talent

Christina is an agent for writers and directors at a small, bespoke agency Imagine Talent, with a list that focuses on emerging talent and female voices. Christina has written feature films, consulted for production companies and financiers, and freelanced at United Agents, as well as spending several years working in film development finance for a fund that invested in 300 British film projects over three years. Christina has previously sat on the selection committee for the BAFTA Rocliffe screenwriting competitions, and she consults for Stage 32, Industrial Scripts and Reel One Entertainment.

How will the online event work?

This event will be live streamed via Zoom.us. Viewing details will be sent via your confirmation.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask their questions to the panel by using the Q&A feature.
