Writers’ Group: In conversation with screenwriter Jackie Okwera

For this month’s writers’ group, host Christina Pickworth will be in conversation with screenwriter Jackie Okwera.

They will be discussing Jackie’s journey in the industry, her transition from working in development as a script editor to screenwriting, working on continuing drama series and joining writers’ rooms. Jackie will also share an insight into her writing process.

There will also be time at the end of the discussion to ask questions during the Q&A.

Jackie Okwera is a screenwriter for TV and film based in Manchester. Before her screenwriting career took off, Jackie spent eleven years working in TV and film development. She script edited continuing drama series and then worked for various leading indies, which culminated in a BAFTA membership in 2018.

Jackie has original projects in development with Big Light, Expectation Entertainment, Merman and 42. She has written episodes of Emmerdale and Mallorca Files and has worked in writers’ rooms for Netflix and Sky. She is currently in a room/writing an episode of an exciting new Bad Robot series for HBO Max.

Attending participants will not be visible to others and will be muted throughout the session. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask their questions to the panel by using the Q&A feature.
