About the Event

For this month’s writers’ group, host Christina Pickworth will be in conversation with producer and head of development Justine Potter, offering a practical guide to pitching TV and radio ideas to production companies and broadcasters.

This session will cover what you need (and what you don’t need) in a paper pitch treatment, how to make initial introductions, what production companies and broadcasters will expect of a face-to-face meeting and how to make sure you're prepared.

There will also be an opportunity for questions about the pitching requirements and processes.

Justine Potter is a producer and head of development for TV and Radio.

Working across drama, comedy and children's, she is often the key contact between the writer, the production company and the broadcaster. It is her job to find content and support writers to shape their ideas into a saleable pitch, script and series. Once a broadcaster has an idea, she works with writers to develop and edit scripts right up until the production crew start filming.

Justine works with broadcasters including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky in the UK as well as American and European broadcasters and for indies including Red Productions, LA Productions, Savvy Productions and Can Can Productions. She also previously ran BBC Writersroom North, giving many writers their first breaks into scripted commissions.
