About the Event

Trigger warning: this page contains references to themes of miscarriage, which some individuals may find distressing.

Writers in the WFTV membership are invited to a workshop exploring how screenwriters can create more realistic and varied accounts of miscarriage in UK film and TV, enhancing understanding of this common women’s health experience while ensuring that those who undergo miscarriage are accurately represented.

The workshop will open with a presentation by Prof. Susie Kilshaw, a Wellcome Trust Professorial Research Fellow and Professor in Medical Anthropology at University College London, with clips highlighting current representations of miscarriage in TV and film. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring NHS miscarriage experts, academics, and writers who have previously worked with narratives around miscarriage, who can offer guidance, information, and support when writing stories about miscarriage. Following the panel there will be the opportunity to network over tea and coffee.
