In the creative sectors, from visual arts to publishing to architecture; on average there are higher proportions of men in lead decision-making roles. However, there are trailblazers changing this, accelerating the drive toward gender equality.

 

Some of their stories are showcased in Global Gamechangers, a full programme of content in celebration of International Women's Day produced by ITN Business. In this 12-minute panel discussion, journalist Louise Minchin speaks with three acclaimed filmmakers -- Waad Al-Kateab (For Sama), Sally El Hosaini (My Brother the Devil and The Swimmers), and Basma Khalifa (Inside the Real Saudi Arabia: Why I Had to Leave) -on overcoming barriers they've faced, and where we go from here.

In this event hosted by Rhianna Dhilllon, both series Directors Jill Robertson and Jennie Paddon were joined by Executive Producer Emma Luffingham and Writer Lauren Klee to discuss their experiences of making the crime drama from script to screen. The panel discussed their time filming on location. 


Created by Ben Richards (Showtrial, Cobra, The Tunnel), The Diplomat is six-part crime series produced by World Productions (Vigil, Line of Duty). Fast-paced, intelligent and with whip-smart humour, The Diplomat follows Laura Simmonds (Sophie Rundle) and her Consul colleague and friend Alba Ortiz (Serena Manteghi) as they fight to protect Distressed British Nationals in Barcelona - Spain’s most visited city. Mixing the roles of lawyer, counsellor and cop, Laura and Alba's diplomatic skills are stretched to the limit as they navigate the stream of surprising and complex cases that walk through the Consulate doors in need of their assistance.

Watch this conversation on the ‘subject’ within documentary filmmaking alongside filmmakers of upcoming documentary Subject, a film which focuses on the ethics and responsibility inherent in documentary filmmaking. The panel explored moral principles that surround those who appear on screen within documentary films, and how their lives are impacted as a result of their involvement.


Subject explores the life-altering experience of sharing one’s life on screen through the participants of five acclaimed documentaries. As tens of millions of people consume documentaries in an unprecedented "golden era," the film urges audiences to consider the impact on documentary participants – the good, the bad, and the complicated.


The panel was chaired by WFTV’s Katie Bailiff. Katie has a long-standing history producing documentary feature films and has won a BAFTA for her work. WFTV welcomed Nigel Abbas, leading media lawyer specialising in Film and TV, for his professional experience on the subject.
