WFTV MEMBER SEEKING A UK/EU PRODUCER FOR TV SERIES.

A WFTV member is hunting for a bold UK/EU producer to board THIS IS IT - a darkly funny, heart-first TV Series set on a floating assisted-dying clinic that slips between Italian and Swiss waters to stay legal (just about). Picture The White Lotus colliding with Six Feet Under on an eco-barge.

Logline
An overstretched doctor and her fiercely devoted misfit crew battle an undercover reporter, red-tape and their own baggage while delivering every guest the most dignified checkout imaginable - preferably with a breath-taking view.

Why jump in? Death is the one spoiler none of us can dodge. Our series wants to smash the taboo around this very current topic with humour, humanity and a very European bite. Industry mentors are onboard this EU-funded scheme led by European Writers Club; now we need the right producing partner to steer it into the world by joining my co-writer and I on the rest of the development camps and beyond.

Key dates:
• Malmö camp 11–12 June (arr 10 / dep 13)
• Madrid camp 15–16 Sept (arr 14 / dep 17)
• Torino Film Lab presentation 19–20 Nov (arr 18 / dep post-lunch 20)

*Please note, stay & meals included; travel is self-funded

If this sounds like your kind of project to champion,  email francesca.nider@gmail.com.

MEMBER CALL OUT: SURVEY FOR MASTERS DISSERTATION.

A WFTV member is currently seeking assistance with their masters dissertation,  if anyone has a spare few minutes please do fill in this online survey:

This survey is part of a Master's dissertation research investigation into the experiences of women film directors (and female filmmakers) in the UK in seeking and securing public finance for feature films. It also explores the potential impact of the introduction of gender equity measures that is, a 50/50 gender split rule for public funds and tax rebate schemes on increasing opportunities for women directors.

The purpose of this research is to better understand:
- The difficulties and challenges faced by female filmmakers while seeking public funding.

- Accessibility to information and public funds.
- How public funding processes and decision-making may affect women differently.
- Whether gender-based funding policies could help create a more inclusive and equitable film industry in the UK.

Your opinion and experience are most important to this study. The survey is confidential, and it will only take 10–15 minutes to complete. The information will be used solely for research purposes and handled in line with research ethics.

Participation guidelines: Women and gender minority filmmakers (producers, writer-directors, or directors) who have produced (co-produced) or submitted for funding a feature-length film in the UK.

Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this important discussion about gender equality in the film and TV industry.

Appreciate your time and help on this! Any additional help or feedback very welcome.

Many thanks! Yvonne R.

FLICKD: the social app for all film & TV lovers

Imagine you could easily connect with other TV & film lovers for free in a safe place online without distractions or clunky user experiences? flickd has launched its free app in UK for iOS and Android users, hoping to transform the experience for TV and film enthusiasts across the world.

What is flickd?
flickd is an app for the TV & film community, a “movie/tv club 2.0” which includes both film and TV shows and delivers an intuitive and modernized user experience which puts its users first, alongside their favorite content. There is no single safe place built with film+TV lovers in mind, where users can openly share opinions and enter discussions with a user-first content-forward clean and modernized UX. flickd is a modern-day Goodreads but for film and TV instead of books – the user discussions and content are connected and at the centre of the app, letting film and TV fans discuss all aspects of the content in depth, learn from each other and share thoughts on specific scenes in a safe online setting.

Who founded flickd?
flickd was founded in 2024 by Matilde Neffe out of a strong need to create a user-centric app for all TV & film lovers like herself, to come together and have discussions around content, as well as track what they're watching in one single place. After 10 years at Amazon, Matilde decided to leave the company and pursue her passion for film & TV.
While at Amazon, she gained extensive experience at Prime Video, working with studios to integrate their content onto Prime Video's selection, and leading the team responsible for personalization and recommendation of content across iOS, Android, Fire TV and smart TVs. Next, she worked closely with startups at AWS and then with Product and Engineering in the development of the search functionality of the Amazon app on both iOS and Android, leveraging cutting-edge technology like automated speech recognition and GenAI technologies.
